Band Biography

Shane Cook & the Woodchippers have a deep foundation in the traditional music, song and dance of Ontario, yet the Woodchippers’ superbly crafted arrangements are a modern and exhilarating approach to fiddle tunes and dance. Each Woodchipper comes to this music honestly, having grown up playing music in families of traditional musicians and dancers. Led by Canadian and US National fiddle champion Shane Cook, The London Free Press says their music “takes the spirit of traditional music from Canada’s past into 2015 and beyond.”

How did they become the Woodchippers, you might ask? Just take a look at the floor after these three dancers tear it up. The Woodchippers’ performances thrive on an exciting mix of dynamic musicianship, high energy and engaging stage presence. With youth on their side, this group, that appears in a variety of configurations ranging from three to six-members, is quickly building a reputation for their humour and spontaneity.

Joining Shane are National Step Dancing Champions Sarah Robinson and Kyle Waymouth, as well as singer/pianist Emily Flack, and guitarist/pianist Jake Charron, with whom Shane has a new CFMA-nominated duo recording, ‘Head to Head’
